Cork Neighbourhood

We hate to be cheesy, but this city really is enchanting. Built within wild and rolling hills, it feels idyllic, but don’t let all that space fool you, it’s a city alive with creative, young energy, known by the locals as ‘the real capital of Ireland’. 30,000 students are based in Cork each year, so it’s a city constantly evolving to make student life the best it can be.

Known for its traditional snug pubs, live music and restaurants serving fresh, locally sourced food, this city is proud and welcoming and is packed full of culture at every turn. Just minutes from shops, bars, cafés and central Cork, our Curraheen Residence is the perfect place for student life. You’re close to several of the major colleges and universities in the city, including:

  • University College Cork
  • Munster Technological University (MTU)
  • Cork College of Commerce
  • Griffith College Cork
  • St John’s Central College
  • National Maritime College of Ireland
  • Crawford College of Art and Design

It couldn’t be easier to get to and from lectures, pop back for lunch or to make use of the study areas in between lectures. Live with us in Curraheen Point and you’ll be close to all that Cork has to offer.

EAT, SEE, SHOP AND EXPERIENCE CORK

The Huguenot Quarter

Pedestrianised streets, with tables outside and serving till late, this is the place to come to find something for your mood and your budget. Ideal for drinks, dinner or just a wander around to soak up the atmosphere, this is our favourite spot the city.

South of Shandon and across the River Lee (around French Church Street, Carey's Lane and Paul Street)

Beantown Cafe

A lovely independent café, serving good coffee and just a 3-minute walk from Curraheen Point. Recently renovated with a chilled vibe, this is a great option if you fancy a change of scene from studying. We can definitely recommend the Reuben toastie – complete with Irish Cheddar, the best there is.

Triskel Arts Centre

Set within a renovated church building, Triskel Arts Centre hosts a wide variety of events from live music, exhibitions, theatre and cinema. Well worth a visit and look out for student concessions on selected events.

Cyprus Avenue

One of the best spots in town to get your live-music fill, gigs vary from local singer songwriters belting out ballads to established bands. Make sure you’re not chatting through the music though, the locals are proud to respect each musicians work, dancing is welcomed though.
